MAN KILLS, BURY FATHER IN SOKOTO

Tragedy yesterday struck at the Kofar Market Area of Sokoto North local government area of Sokoto State when a 25-year-old man, Bello Mallami, allegedly killed and buried his 56-year-old father,  Mallami Aliyu. The incident, which sent fear into the residents of the area, was said to have happened at about 2am on Sunday.


Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Sani El-Mustapha, who confirmed the incident, assured that investigation had begun.

El-Mustapha said, “The boy is in detention now and investigation has begun. Though, we discovered he was intoxicated and wasn’t himself at the moment, however, the security is waiting for him to regain his consciousness and feel remorse before further investigation.”

Narrating the incident, Fatima Aliyu, wife of slain Aliyu and mother of Bello Fatima Aliyu, said the incident happened on Sunday night at about 2am.

According to her, Bello met his father on that fateful night at about 2am saying his Nafilat prayers and threatened to kill him.

As soon as he posed the threat, he brought out his machete and struck his father in the head and continued hitting him until he confirmed that he was dead before he took the corpse and buried it within the vicinity.

The slain Mallami Aliyu was said to be an official with the Centre for Islamic Studies of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
