Security alert at Nyanya bus terminals

Transporters in the Federal Capital Territory
have beefed up security at various parks in
the city.
Also, the Deputy Director, Public Relations,
SSS, Marilyn Ogar, said security agencies were
doing their best to identify and apprehend the
perpetrators of the blast at Nyanya.
She added that no foreign security agency was
involved in the investigations.
She said, "Do we invite FBI out of the blues?
Security agencies are doing their best to
apprehend the perpetrators, so the idea of
inviting a foreign security agency doesn't
arise."
Investigations at many motor parks within
Abuja on Wednesday revealed that stringent
security measures were adopted by virtually
all the transporters in a bid to avert any form
of terror attack.
Our correspondent gathered that the intense
security screening followed the bomb blast
at a motor park in Nyanya, Abuja on Monday.
At least, 89 people were killed in the blast,
while 257 were injured.
At the Kubwa, Lugbe and Jabi, it was observed
that passengers with suspicious luggage were
subjected to screening by bus marshals.
The passengers, however, were not frightened
as they complied with the team of security
operatives at the parks.
Specifically at Kubwa, one of our
correspondents saw stern-looking union
officers mandating passengers to unveil the
contents of their respective belongings.
Inter-state transporters, which have a large
presence at Jabi, adopted the measure of
stopping unknown vehicles from entering
their parks.
Our correspondents gathered that the State
Security Service on Wednesday sent an
invitation to all managers of inter-state
transport companies in Jabi, as well as their
respective chief security officers, for a
meeting today (Thursday).
According to the CSO of one of the inter-state
transport firms, the meeting was called in
order to discuss ways of boosting security
across the parks.
Road transport unions in the capital city had
intensified monitoring of passengers and
individuals, who visit their parks.
When contacted, the Chairman, National
Union of Road Transport Workers, in charge
of Kubwa, Biazhim and NNPC Under-bridge
Motor Parks, Mr. Odunayo Adeyoju, narrated
to one of our correspondents how his men
and the police had increased security checks
in all the parks within the axis.
