Suspects on bail kill one, injure others

Some suspects, who were recently
released from prison on bail, wreaked
havoc in Ebute Meta and Ijora Badia
areas of Lagos State on Friday and
Tuesday respectively.
PUNCH Metro learnt that in Ijora Badia,
a suspected gang leader, identified as
Niyi Star, allegedly killed one Ade Ojora
in the late hours of Tuesday.
According to residents, Star, who was
arrested by the police for murder in
2012, stabbed 25-year-old Ojora to
death and stabbed many others on Ijora
Oloye Street.
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi
Braide, told PUNCH Metro that the
deceased was also a wanted criminal.
She said, "On Tuesday night, one Niyi
Star, who was arrested two years ago
for murder, stormed the Ijora Oloye
area with six others from Orile Iganmu.
He attacked one Ade Ojora, who is also
wanted. He was stabbed repeatedly and
later died at a hospital.
"We don't know how Niyi Star was
released. He has fled, but efforts are on
to arrest him."
PUNCH Metro learnt that the killing was
as a result of a feud between youths in
the Ijora Oloye and the Matiminu areas
of Ijora Badia.
Our correspondent learnt that on
Wednesday morning, youths from Ijora
Oloye set out to retaliate the killing, but
policemen stopped them.
"Pin-down points have been set up in
the area and security has been beefed
up to prevent any violence," the police
spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, PUNCH Metro learnt that
many sustained injuries last Friday in
the Ebute Meta area of the state during
a festival at Ilogbo Village.
Our correspondent, who visited the
area, learnt that the violence was
spearheaded by one Samson, another
suspected gangster who was arrested
March last year by the Special Anti-
Robbery Squad, but was released on
bail.
Our correspondent learnt that less than
a week after Samson was released, he
and others wreaked havoc in the area.
A resident, who preferred to remain
anonymous, said, "Samson was arrested
last year when he was about to attack
the Baale of Otumara, Ilaje in Lagos
Mainland Local Government Area. He
was handed over to the police and
charged to court, but was granted bail.
"On Friday, there was Odun Elegba
festival in Ilogbo Village. Samson and his
boys stormed the place and seized the
opportunity to attack and rob several
residents. I was beaten up in front of
my shop.
"Some recharge card vendors and some
commuters returning from work were
also robbed, while women's handbags
were snatched.
"One guy was attacked with a machete
but was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Many others were injured."
PUNCH Metro learnt that policemen
attached to the Denton Police Division,
Iponri Station and Area C were able to
disperse the thugs.
