Lady Gaga talks quitting music, slams Katy Perry

Lady Gaga has said she would rather quit
music than be forced to create songs
similar to Katy Perry's, she said during a
keynote speech at South by Southwest
last Saturday.
South by Southwest is an annual music,
film, and interactive conference and
festival held in Austin, Texas, United
States of America.
The "Applause" singer was decked out
in a dress made of trash bags and
bleached-blonde dreadlocks while
delivering the keynote, which addressed
a wide range of topics including a
difficult year and an underperforming
new album.
"I'm very proud… I'm held to such an
insane standard, and it's almost like
everybody forgets where the music
business is now," she said.
However, she added that she'd rather
quit music than compromise her talent.
She said, "I refuse to compromise and
allow my talents to be monetised to the
point that I don't want to be here
anymore. I will stop, I will quit, I will
retire from the commercial market if I
have to do something other than be
myself because if I can't be myself in
this moment, then everything I have
said to my friends since the beginning
will be a total lie.
"Then what? I'll be myself until I have to
make money to sustain a luxurious
lifestyle, and then I change, right? No,
I'll be myself till they close the coffin so
that you can all be yourselves."
Her words struck a chord when she later
addressed how she loathes comparisons
to another popstar like Katy Perry.
She said, "I don't know what I have to
do with Katy Perry. My music is so
different, and I couldn't be more
different."
She explained how she doesn't want to
be "beautiful" and refuses to make her
persona all about "tits and bums."
She said, "That's the thing that poisoned
me… [People saying] 'We want you to
be beautiful' over and over and over in
my head until I just wanted to look ugly
all the time because I'm rebellious…
I've won Grammys now. I've written
albums. I've toured the world four
times… You're telling me to be
beautiful? That's what this is all about.
Is it all about tits and bums? That's so
sad."
Who is Lady Gaga?
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta,
better known by her stage name, Lady
Gaga, was born on March 28, 1986.
Lady Gaga is an American recording
artist, activist, record producer,
businesswoman, fashion designer,
philanthropist, and actress. She was
born, raised, and lives in New York City.
Lady Gaga primarily studied at the
Convent of the Sacred Heart and briefly
attended New York University's Tisch
School of the Arts before withdrawing to
focus on her musical career. She soon
began performing in the rock music
scene of Manhattan's Lower East Side.
By the end of 2007, record executive
and producer, Vincent Herbert, signed
her to his label, Streamline Records, an
imprint of Interscope Records. Initially
working as a songwriter at Interscope
Records, her vocal abilities captured the
attention of recording artist, Akon, who
also signed her to Kon Live Distribution,
his own label under Interscope.
Lady Gaga rose to prominence with her
August 2008 debut album, The Fame,
which was a critical and commercial
success. The record included the
international number-one tracks "Just
Dance" and "Poker Face". In November
2009, her extended play, The Fame
Monster, was released to a similar
reception, and produced the hit singles,
"Bad Romance", "Telephone", and
"Alejandro". Its accompanying Monster
Ball Tour became one of the highest-
grossing concert tours of all time.
Gaga's second album, Born This Way,
was released in May 2011 and topped
album charts in most major markets. It
generated chart-topping songs "Born
This Way", "Judas", and "The Edge of
Glory". After taking a sabbatical for a hip
injury and the cancellation of the
remaining dates of the "Born This Way
Ball" tour, Gaga's third album, Artpop,
was released in November 2013 and
became her second number one album
in the US. Artpop was preceded by
singles "Applause" and "Do What U
Want".
Influenced by David Bowie, Michael
Jackson, Madonna, Cher, and Queen,
Lady Gaga is recognised for her
flamboyant, diverse, and outré
contributions to the music industry
through her fashion, performances, and
music videos. As of November 2013, she
had sold an estimated 24 million albums
and 125 million singles worldwide and
her singles are some of the best-selling
worldwide.
Her achievements include five Grammy
Awards and 13 MTV Video Music
Awards. Gaga has consecutively
appeared on Billboard magazine's Artists
of the Year. She ranked fourth in VH1's
list of 100 Greatest Women in Music,
and she is the fourth best selling digital
singles artist in US, according to RIAA.
Lady Gaga is regularly placed on lists
composed by Forbes magazine, including
The World's 100 Most Powerful Women
from 2010 to 2013, and was named one
of the most influential people in the
world by Time magazine.
Outside of her musical career, she is a
prominent Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender activist.
Lady Gaga has an estimated net worth
of $190m (N32.3bn) as of 2013, and
she's got a luxurious lifestyle to show
for it. As an entrepreneur, she has a
collection of real estate properties she
has invested her money in.
Estates and Homes
Lady Gaga, who has achieved
tremendous fame and success, used to
live in a rented mansion in Bel-Air for
which she paid a rent of $25,000 (N4m)
a month. The house boasts six
bedrooms and eight bathrooms. But in
2010, she invested in real estate and
bought a grand mansion in Scotland.
Bought for £8m (about N2bn), the
house is spread in the area of 200
acres. The lavish Scottish castle has 60
rooms and has a 1,300 square-foot
ballroom with three kitchens.
Apart from her Scotland home, Lady
Gaga also owns a parental house in New
York. The building was built around 1927
and is themed as Pythian Egyptian. The
house is built in the upper west side of
New York City.
Lady Gaga's Autos and Cars
Lady Gaga is often spotted in her
shining black Lincoln MKZ. The car truly
matches her extravagant lifestyle as this
car is a symbol of luxury. The car has a
powerful V6 engine, available all-wheel
drive and a distinctive, retro-look
interior design. The exterior of her car
includes the familial Lincoln waterfall
grille and tasteful chrome trim.
Lady Gaga, who is known for her unique
styles, also owns a rather huge car, a
Chevrolet Suburban. The car is one of
the longest-running models sold in the
United States and was debuted in 1936.
Although it's as good as a mini truck but
it is rather quick for it as it can reach 60
mph in less than 9 seconds.
When it's about rich and famous, the
Mercedes has to be in the kitty. It
seems that Lady Gaga is in love with
SUVs as she also has a Mercedes Benz
GL-Class. The Lady drives her muscular
black SUV quite often. The car can
accommodate at least seven people
comfortably and has multi-zone climate
control and eight beverage holders.
This eccentric dresser is known for
driving black cars as most of her cars are
black in colour. The sensational singer
also owns a luxurious Porsche Panamera
S, which is one of the most lavish cars in
the series. The car cabin is a rather
magnificent place, with wonderfully
upholstered seats and a five-dial
instrument binnacle.
Lady Gaga also owns a classic vehicle
which she often drives in city. Her red
Rolls Royce Corniche III is rather modest
than her extravagant personality. The
engine management system was
switched to the more modern MK-
Motronic. This timeless beauty was
showcased in 1989 Frankfurt Motor
Show and since then is part of many rich
and famous people's classic possessions
including Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga also owns an Audi R8, which
cost her $205,000 (N32.8m).
Vacations
American superstar Lady Gaga is one of
the many musicians and film stars who
love to spend their leisure time in the
Greek island of Crete, one of the biggest
Greek islands, 260 km long and 60 km
wide.
The Greek island of Crete is located in
the southeastern part of the
Mediterranean Sea.
Philanthropy
Lady Gaga is a true philanthropist and is
associated with many charitable
organisations. She launched a charitable
trust named on her album "Born this
way". The foundation explores the best
ways to reach out to youths and create
a new culture of kindness, bravery,
acceptance and empowerment. The
organisation also addresses issues like
self-confidence, well-being, bullying and
career development.
