•Two headless bodies found
Many traders in Lagos Street in Benin City, Edo State, were beaten up yesterday by suspected Air-Force officials.
Some of the traders were arrested and taken away, which caused panic among women and children.
Lagos Street is a commercial centre at the Oba Ovoranmwen Square.
Police spokesman Moses Eguaveon said he was yet to receive details from the DPO.
Air-Force officials were said to have stormed the street, following the beating of their colleague.
It was gathered the Air-Force official threatened to deal with a trader, who advised him to park properly.
Witnesses said the Air Force officer, who was dressed in overall safety clothing, ignored pleas by other traders and hit one of them.
“This made the two boys to beat up the man and they ran away. We don’t know those who did it but now they are back for a reprisal attack.”
An Air-Force personnel said the assaulted officer broke his arm.
“They beat up our person and the man’s arm is broken.”
The Air-Force Base, 81 Air Maritime, has given the name of the official as Benson Ibunu.
It said Ibunu’s wrist was broken, and is at the Military base Hospital on Airport Road
Spokesperson of 81 Air Maritime Mrs. O. Oyewole said it was Joint Task Force officers, who rescued the official.
She said Ibunu was sent to buy some things at the market when he was attacked.
Also yesterday, two headless bodies were discovered at a building in Lagos Street.
It was gathered that the victims were travelling to Warri and decided to pass the night with their kinsmen.
Police from Oba Market Police Station were said to have taken the bodies away.
