Unless you've been living under a rock, you would know that the Elite 3.. Olamide, Davido, and Wizkid basically straight up RAN Nigerian in the year of 2013. So the question is, who was the KING of 2013?
Olamide
Olamide definitely took the year 2013 by storm, he had multiple hits in a row, and he built and incredibly strong fan base. Even though he is the voice of the streets, he has made his way into the hearts of everybody from several different walks of life. There is no where that Olamide can go without being hailed by a crowd of jubilant fans. But, let's not forget that whenever the anniversary of Dagrin's death rolls around, everyone LOVES to compare Olamide to him. People who we once thought were fans begin hurling insults at the rapper claiming that he stole Dagrin's style, or that he wouldn't be as famous if Dagrin was still around. At the end of the day, we're not God, so we cannot say what would have been or could have been. But what we do know, is that Olamide had an awesome year in 2013!
Wizkid
Wizkid seriously dominated radio air play in 2013, like he has been doing since 2010. He has had several hits, from Samba to Thank You, to Jaiye Jaiye, and finishing strong with Caro even into the new year…But he has had a couple of unpleasant run ins with his fans. There was the big controversy about him telling a fan that "Broke people always think they have an opinion" ..In his defense, the person that he told that wasn't even really a fan, and it was just a negative person trying to nit pick at a minor grammatical error. His car was also reportedly stoned… But in his defense, he was stoned because he refused to hand out money. Just because one is rich at they supposed to hand out money to their fans? Anyhow. Wizkid still had a bunch of hits and successes in the year 2013 regardless.
Davido
Davido definitely took 2013 by storm as well. His hit song Gobe coupled with the success of his "Skelewu" dance were extremely successful! But wait. Sigh, the pains of being a celebrity. Everything that you do is seen under a microscope. A day after the release of Davido's song Gobe, rumours started circulating that he stole it from singer "Password" who released the song years earlier with little to no success. The rumours were then sorted out and we were told that Password sold the song and helped produce it. But fans were still upset because it was not Davido's original content. After the success of the Skelewu dance, fans then started to complain that Davido stole the dance from Dammy Krane, and Dammy Krane shortly released a video with a dance very similar to Skelewu…And we won't mention the complaints that fans had for his Skelewu video… Even though we liked all the videos, sometimes it's still hard to please the masses. Despite the dramatics, Davido still had a nice 2013.
